Kyle Larson Holds Off Justin Allgaier in Texas Thriller

Kyle Larson proved once again why he is one of the best in the sport, holding off a late charge from Justin Allgaier to win the Andy’s Frozen Custard 340 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Despite encouragement from his crew chief to go after the “G.O.A.T,” Allgaier simply ran out of time. Larson stayed out front during a 17-lap green flag run to the finish and crossed the line just 0.293 seconds ahead.

“I didn’t think I had a chance with Justin behind me,” Larson said. “He was really good and could run multiple lanes. I was just trying to hold him off and keep my momentum.”

The win marked Larson’s second straight victory at Texas, his third at the track overall, and the 18th of his career in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Allgaier gave it everything he had in the closing laps, using the high lane to close the gap, but couldn’t find a clean way around his JR Motorsports teammate.

“Without contact, I don’t know if there was any way to pass him,” Allgaier said. “I tried everything I could and just came up short.”

The final run came after a late caution set up the restart. Larson was first off pit road, while Allgaier lined up just behind him. Once the green flag dropped, Allgaier quickly moved into second and began chasing Larson down, but couldn’t complete the pass.

Sam Mayer finished third, followed by rookie Brent Crews in fourth, who also picked up a $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus. Parker Retzlaff rounded out the top five.

The race featured plenty of action, including seven cautions and an early crash that took out Corey Day on the opening lap.

Larson led a race-high 93 laps, while Allgaier controlled the opening stage. A highlight moment came midway through the race when Larson went three-wide with Crews and Connor Zilisch, with all three cars somehow avoiding a major wreck.

In the end, it came down to experience and track position, and Larson made it count, adding another win to his already impressive resume.
