Chase Elliott Takes Control Late to Win at Texas

Chase Elliott delivered a strong and steady performance Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, winning the Würth 400 Presented by LIQUI MOLY after taking the lead late and holding off a hard charge from Denny Hamlin.

Elliott did not lead until lap 152, when pit strategy shuffled the field. From that point on, he stayed near the front and took control of the race thanks in part to fast pit stops from his Hendrick Motorsports crew.

A late caution set up a restart with four laps to go, but Elliott executed perfectly. With help from teammate Alex Bowman, he cleared Hamlin into Turn 2 and pulled away to win by 0.407 seconds.

“Alex gave me a great push,” Elliott said. “I was able to execute and manage the final laps.”

The win was Elliott’s second at Texas, his second of the season, and the 23rd of his NASCAR Cup Series career.

Hamlin finished second after battling Elliott hard on the final restart but came up just short.

“It just allowed his momentum to pick up quicker than mine,” Hamlin said. “Good day, just one spot short.”

Tyler Reddick finished fourth after a late charge on two tires, continuing his strong season and holding the points lead.

The race featured major attrition throughout the field. Christopher Bell was collected in a crash early after contact with Todd Gilliland. Defending race winner Joey Logano was eliminated after a pit road crash, and Kyle Larson hit the wall later in the race after losing control.

Kyle Busch also saw his strong run fall apart after contact in the closing laps dropped him outside the top 15.

In the end, Elliott stayed clean, stayed patient, and timed everything right to earn a hard-fought win in a chaotic race.
