Fresh off his first NASCAR Cup Series win at Jack Link’s 500, Carson Hocevar kept the momentum rolling Friday night with a dominant victory in the SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Hocevar pulled away in overtime to beat his Spire Motorsports teammate Kyle Busch by 0.730 seconds. The win marked his sixth career victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and came at the same track where he earned his first back in 2023.
The result also flipped the script from earlier this season at EchoPark Speedway, where Busch edged Hocevar in a close finish. This time, Hocevar got the better of the veteran.
“It’s unbelievable, what a fun race,” Hocevar said after the win. “We had to reverse the order with Kyle. I’ve watched him win a lot of truck races, so it’s nice to get one back.”
Busch, who had won his last four Truck Series races at Texas, had to fight from behind after an early brush with the wall. He recovered throughout the night and put himself in position late, but came up just short of adding to his record-setting win total.
“We had an eventful night,” Busch said. “We made a lot of adjustments and got the truck better. It would have been nice to win, but it’s cool to see a teammate get it done.”
Late-race chaos set up the overtime finish. Gio Ruggiero led the field to the restart, but lost momentum in a three-wide battle coming to the white flag. Hocevar took advantage, surged to the front, and never looked back, building a comfortable gap in the final lap.
Kaden Honeycutt finished third, followed by Brandon Jones and pole-sitter Ben Rhodes to round out the top five.
Despite the strong finish, Honeycutt left frustrated as he continues to search for his first win.
“I’ve got to figure out how to win races,” he said. “It’s eating me alive.”
Ruggiero also had a shot at victory late in regulation, but a major crash forced overtime and changed the outcome. Hocevar capitalized, leading a race-high 76 laps and proving once again he is one of the hottest drivers in the sport right now.
