Reigning Top Fuel champion Doug Kalitta delivered a historic performance Sunday at zMAX Dragway, shattering the track speed record on his way to victory at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.
Kalitta powered his Mac Tools dragster to a run of 3.692 seconds at 342.98 mph in the final round, marking the third-fastest pass in NHRA history. He defeated a stacked field that included Shawn Langdon, Tony Stewart, and Leah Pruett. The win was Kalitta’s second of the 2026 season and the 60th of his career.
“Alan Johnson called it,” Kalitta said. “He thought we could go over 340, and he was right. I’m just lucky to be part of a team like this.”
Langdon finished as the runner-up, while Pruett took third in the Top Fuel final.
In Funny Car, Ron Capps stayed hot with his second win in three races. Driving his NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra, Capps posted a 3.905-second run at 334.90 mph to defeat Jack Beckman, Matt Hagan, and J. R. Todd in the final quad.
Capps led from the start and never looked back, earning his 79th career victory and his fifth at zMAX, the most among active Funny Car drivers. The three-time champion has now reached three straight final rounds and continues to lead the points standings.
“I still can’t believe it,” Capps said. “When you have a car like this, you just don’t want to mess it up. Everything came together.”
Pro Stock saw Matt Hartford grab his second win of the season with a 6.526-second run at 210.05 mph in his Chevrolet Camaro. He outran Cody Coughlin, Greg Anderson, and Matt Latino in the final.
Hartford’s strong reaction time helped seal his first career four-wide victory and the 10th win of his career.
“If you want to win in this class, you have to leave first,” Hartford said. “That’s not easy in a four-wide, but we got it done.”
In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Gaige Herrera returned to victory lane with a run of 6.758 seconds at 199.88 mph on his Suzuki. He topped a final quad that featured Richard Gadson, Clayton Howey, and Chase Van Sant.
The win was Herrera’s first of the season and the 29th of his career, continuing his impressive rise in the category.
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads next to South Georgia Motorsports Park for the NHRA Southern Nationals, scheduled for May 1–3.
