Corey Day Steals Talladega Thriller for First O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Win

Corey Day pulled off a dramatic finish Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway, capturing his first career NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory in the Ag-Pro 300.

Driving the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Day led only the final lap, taking the yellow and checkered flags in a classic superspeedway finish. The 20-year-old Californian, competing in his first full-time season, delivered Hendrick Motorsports its first win at Talladega in the series.

“I sure didn’t think my first win would come at a superspeedway,” Day said. “My team built an incredible car. We’ve been close a few times this season, so to finally finish one off feels great.”

Adding to the moment, former NFL star Jason Kelce joined the team as a guest crew member, helping on pit road during the race.

Brent Crews finished a career-best second for Joe Gibbs Racing, while Sheldon Creed crossed the line in third in a tight photo finish. Creed also secured the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus for the second straight race.

JR Motorsports driver Sammy Smith finished fourth, extending the team’s top-10 streak to 68 races, the second longest in series history. Independent driver Jeremy Clements rounded out the top five with his best result since 2022.

Jesse Love started from the pole and led a race-high 37 laps but was shuffled back in the closing laps. A late-race scramble saw Creed briefly take control before a final-lap surge allowed Day to capitalize.

A late incident involving Sam Mayer and Jeb Burton shuffled the running order, ending both drivers’ chances after contact with the outside wall.

JR Motorsports teammates Carson Kvapil and Justin Allgaier won the opening two stages but were unable to recover from mid-race penalties.

Despite finishing 23rd, Allgaier continues to lead the series standings, holding a 105-point advantage over Creed.

The series now heads to Texas Motor Speedway for the Andy’s Frozen Custard 340, where Kyle Larson is the defending race winner.
