Christopher Bell made the most of his return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, scoring a long-awaited victory Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Driving the No. 62 Halmar Friesen Toyota, Bell took control late and never looked back, grabbing the lead with just over 60 laps remaining and holding off Chandler Smith to the finish. The win marked Bell’s first Truck Series victory since 2017 and the eighth of his career.
For Bell, it was a full-circle moment with the team. After previously filling in for Stewart Friesen, this time he returned as a teammate—and delivered a trip to Victory Lane.
While Bell celebrated, the race told a much different story for Corey Heim.
Heim entered the night with a chance to sweep the Triple Truck Challenge and collect a $350,000 bonus, but those hopes came to an abrupt end with 70 laps to go. After taking the lead for the first time, Heim was turned into the outside wall following contact with Christian Eckes.
The incident triggered a multi-truck crash that also collected Kaden Honeycutt and brought out a red flag. Heim and Honeycutt were both done for the night, ending what had been a massive opportunity.
Despite the contact, Heim took the high road afterward, calling it a racing incident between two drivers who have battled closely before.
Up front, Bell took advantage of the chaos. After assuming the lead on Lap 188, he controlled the pace through multiple restarts, including a late one that saw Smith charge into second but fall just short at the line.
Behind the top two, Giovanni Ruggiero finished third, followed by Ross Chastain and Eckes, who led a race-high 132 laps but faded late.
The race was anything but calm, featuring nine cautions and constant position changes throughout the field. Strategy, survival, and timing all played a role, but in the end, Bell was the one who put it all together when it mattered most.
For Heim, it’s a tough loss—not just of a race win, but of a potential $350,000 payday. For Bell, it’s a reminder that even with limited appearances, he’s still a force whenever he straps into a Truck.
