Mosack Spoils Dominant Day for Gray, JGR at Kansas

It was deja vu all over again for Joe Gibbs Racing at Kansas Speedway. Despite a commanding performance by Tanner Gray in the No. 18 Toyota, a late charge from Connor Mosack allowed the Pinnacle Racing Group driver to steal the win in the Tide 150.

Mosack, driving for the family-run PRG team, ran down Gray in the closing laps and made the winning pass with 13 laps to go. It was Mosack’s second consecutive Kansas win after taking the checkered flag there last fall in JGR equipment.

“Being able to win back-to-back here with two different teams means a lot,” said an elated Mosack. “I’m so proud of this Pinnacle Racing Group and it’s awesome to get another one here.”

Gray was understandably disappointed after leading 75 laps and appearing to be in control until a late caution allowed Mosack to close the gap. As his car tightened up, Gray couldn’t keep Mosack behind him.

“I just made a bad lane choice and let Connor get to us,” Gray explained. “Once he was by, I was too tight to get back to him.”

The outcome only added to the recent misery for the JGR program at the hands of the upstart Pinnacle team. In 2023, PRG driver Luke Fenhaus twice chased down JGR’s William Sawalich and won with late restarts at Nashville and Iowa. At Dover earlier this season, Connor Zilisch took the win after contact ended Sawalich’s dominating day.

While Gray missed out on becoming the sixth set of brothers to win in the ARCA Menards Series, Mosack continued his consistent stretch of strong runs in limited starts. After three top fives in six races with JGR last year, the Kansas native has opened 2024 with fourth at Phoenix and now the Kansas victory for PRG.

Dean Thompson, Kris Wright, Jake Finch rounded out the top five finishers behind Mosack and Gray. The ARCA season continues with the General Tire 150 at Charlotte on May 24th.
