Arrow McLaren is making one of the biggest moves in recent IndyCar history.

The team announced a major overhaul of its driver lineup for the 2027 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, signing six-time series champion Scott Dixon and reigning Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist to multi-year contracts. The pair will join current star Pato O’Ward in a lineup that immediately becomes one of the strongest on the grid.

The changes do not stop there.

Arrow McLaren also confirmed that 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay will return to competition for next year’s “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” While Hunter-Reay now serves as the team’s sporting director, he will once again climb behind the wheel for the Indianapolis 500.

Together, the four drivers bring an incredible amount of experience and success.

Dixon, Rosenqvist, O’Ward, and Hunter-Reay have combined for 89 IndyCar victories. At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, they have won the Indianapolis 500 three times and led more than 1,100 laps in their careers.

It is a clear statement of intent from a team determined to compete for both race wins and championships.

“It’s never an easy decision, but when you have the opportunity to bring drivers of this caliber into your team, you take it seriously,” team principal Tony Kanaan said.

Kanaan praised Dixon’s legendary résumé, Rosenqvist’s recent Indianapolis 500 victory, and Hunter-Reay’s proven ability at Indianapolis, while pointing to O’Ward as a driver who has repeatedly come close to earning his own Indy triumph.

The announcement also brings difficult news for the drivers leaving the organization.

Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel will not return for 2027.

Lundgaard has been one of Arrow McLaren’s top performers this season, earning two victories and sitting third in the championship after finishing second to O’Ward at Mid-Ohio. Despite those results, the opportunity to sign one of the greatest drivers in IndyCar history proved too significant for the team to pass up.

For Dixon, the move marks the end of an era.

The New Zealander has raced for Chip Ganassi Racing since 2002, building one of the most successful careers the sport has ever seen. His 59 career victories rank second all-time, and he has won races in a record 23 consecutive seasons.

Leaving the team that defined his career could not have been an easy decision.

“It was a big decision for myself, for my family,” Dixon said. “I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak and Tony are building there.”

Dixon also noted the special meaning of joining McLaren, a team founded by fellow New Zealander Bruce McLaren.

“As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special,” he said.

Rosenqvist’s return also carries extra significance.

The Swedish driver previously raced for Arrow McLaren from 2021 through 2023 before moving elsewhere. During that first stint, he helped return the team to prominence at Indianapolis by earning its first front-row starting spot at the Speedway since 1976.

Now, he returns as the reigning Indianapolis 500 champion.

Rosenqvist also highlighted the chemistry within the new lineup, especially with O’Ward, who served as the best man at his wedding.

“We’ve got an incredible lineup with Scott joining and Ryan returning to the ‘500,’” Rosenqvist said. “I think our collective experience will be a huge benefit.”

Hunter-Reay echoed the team’s ambitions, making it clear that winning the Indianapolis 500 remains Arrow McLaren’s top priority.

Team CEO Zak Brown believes the familiarity between the drivers will help the organization hit the ground running. Dixon and Rosenqvist spent time together at Chip Ganassi Racing and have continued working closely through technical partnerships in recent years.

That existing relationship should make the transition smoother as Arrow McLaren prepares for its next chapter.

The 2027 season is still months away, but the message from Arrow McLaren is already clear.

The team is no longer satisfied with simply being a contender.

By assembling one of the deepest and most accomplished driver lineups in IndyCar, Arrow McLaren has made it known that championships and Indianapolis 500 victories are now the expectation, not the goal.
