Katherine Legge is preparing to make history later this month as she attempts to become the first woman ever to complete “The Double,” racing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
Legge’s management team announced Wednesday that she will compete in the No. 78 car for Live Fast Motorsports in the Coca-Cola 600 after racing earlier in the day in the Indianapolis 500 with A.J. Foyt Enterprises.
“It’s another groundbreaking thing that I can showcase to the world,” Legge said. “If you set your mind to things, you can do anything.”
The 45-year-old driver will be making her fifth start in the Indianapolis 500. Her best finish came in 2012 when she placed 22nd. Over the past two years, she has also competed in eight NASCAR Cup Series races.
Only a handful of drivers have attempted both races in the same day since 1994. Tony Stewart remains the only driver to complete all 1,100 miles while finishing in the top six in both events back in 2001.
Legge said the challenge has been on her mind for years because of the physical and mental demands involved.
“It requires a level of endurance and precision that very few people have pursued,” she said.
Most recently, Kyle Larson attempted the double in 2024 and 2025, but weather delays and crashes prevented a successful run through both races.
Now, Legge has the opportunity to make history and add another major milestone to her racing career.
