The streets of Chicago are set to roar this weekend as NASCAR returns for its second annual street race extravaganza. All eyes are on Shane van Gisbergen as he attempts a historic sweep across both the Xfinity and Cup Series races.
The New Zealand sensation, who shocked the motorsports world with his Cup Series debut victory here last year, enters Saturday’s Xfinity race on a hot streak. Having already clinched back-to-back road course wins at Portland and Sonoma, SVG is gunning for a third straight victory in The Loop 110.
But the weekend’s excitement doesn’t end there. Sunday’s Cup Series event sees Christopher Bell emerge as a unique threat, comfortable in both wet and dry conditions. After his dominant performance in last year’s rain-soaked Chicago race and his recent wet-weather win in New Hampshire, Bell might be the only driver hoping for clouds on race day.
“I think at this point, I’d probably prefer the rain,” Bell admitted, setting the stage for an intriguing showdown on the challenging 2.14-mile street circuit.
