Stewart-Haas Racing to Close NASCAR Teams After 2024 Season

Stewart-Haas Racing, the NASCAR team co-owned by Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, will cease operations in the Cup and Xfinity Series after the 2024 season, the owners announced Tuesday.
The decision brings an end to SHR’s 16-year run in NASCAR that has produced two Cup Series championships, over 100 race wins across all three national touring series, and success in the sport’s biggest events like the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400.
“It is a decision that did not come easily, nor was it made quickly,” Stewart and Haas said in a statement. “Racing is a labor-intensive, humbling sport. It requires unwavering commitment and vast resources…we’ve reached a point in our respective personal and business lives where it’s time to pass the torch.”
Stewart, a NASCAR Hall of Famer and three-time Cup champion, joined Haas as a co-owner in 2009 after retiring as a driver from Joe Gibbs Racing. He delivered SHR’s first Cup win that season and the team’s first title in 2011. Kevin Harvick added a second championship in 2014. Christopher Bell Captures Rain-Shortened Coca-Cola 600

Christopher Bell won the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, leading 90 laps and winning the second stage. The race was called official on lap 249 due to heavy rain. Strategy Pays Off as Elliott Captures Xfinity Win at Charlotte

With a masterful strategic call and a little luck, Chase Elliott scored his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season in Saturday’s BetMGM 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Saving a fresh set of tires for the final run, Elliott grabbed the lead after a restart on lap 183 and never relinquished it, going on to beat Brandon Jones by 0.500 seconds.
“Greg (crew chief Greg Ives) made a good call, and I think ultimately that’s what won us the race,” said Elliott, who started 30th. “Hats off to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports. Super special to win with the 17 on the car for the boss (Rick Hendrick) and Linda.”

Sanchez Steals Spotlight After Heim’s Charlotte Truck Blunder

Nick Sanchez capitalized on fresh tires and a timely pit stop to charge from 10th to the lead in the final nine laps and capture his second career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Sanchez crossed the finish line 0.507 seconds ahead of Corey Heim, but Heim’s apparent runner-up finish was rescinded after his No. 11 Toyota failed post-race inspection with three lug nuts not properly secured. Stewart Friesen was elevated to second place after Heim’s disqualification.
“It’s awesome – my No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet,” said Sanchez, who also collected a $50,000 bonus as the winner of the first Triple Truck Challenge event. “We started off bad. It didn’t affect us.
