Corey Heim Dominates, Then Holds Off Teammate for Rockingham Win

Corey Heim showed total control for most of Friday night’s Black’s Tire 200 at Rockingham Speedway—but the closing laps turned it into a fight to the finish.

Driving the No. 1 Toyota, Heim led a career-best 178 laps on his way to his second win of the season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the 25th of his career, moving him into fifth place on the all-time wins list.

Despite his dominance, the race nearly slipped away in the final four laps. Heim began battling steering issues and tire chatter, forcing him to defend aggressively against a hard-charging Kaden Honeycutt. The two teammates at TRICON Garage went head-to-head in a dramatic finish, with Honeycutt briefly edging ahead on the final lap.

Heim responded with a bold move into Turn 1, using lapped traffic to his advantage and regaining control. He ultimately crossed the line just 0.090 seconds ahead, securing the victory in one of the closest finishes of the season.

The win also carried added significance beyond the trophy. Heim swept both stages—his 44th and 45th career stage wins—and recorded the fastest lap of the race, making him the first driver this season across NASCAR’s top three series to earn maximum points in a single event.

Additionally, the victory marked Heim’s second consecutive win in the Triple Truck Challenge, earning him a $100,000 bonus. He now heads to Bristol Motor Speedway with a shot at a $500,000 payday if he can complete the three-race sweep.

Honeycutt finished a strong second, just shy of his first career win, while Layne Riggs initially crossed the line third. A post-race disqualification for Sammy Smith elevated Stewart Friesen to fourth, followed by Grant Enfinger in fifth.

Even with late-race adversity, Heim once again proved why he remains one of the most dominant drivers in the series, combining speed, composure, and racecraft to seal another major victory.
