Alex Palou Dominates To Win in Another Barber Beatdown

Alex Palou looks to be in championship form once again after a dominant victory at Barber Motorsports Park. The four-time and defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion captured his second win in four races this season, driving the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to victory in the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix.

Starting from the pole, Palou controlled the race from the beginning, leading 79 of 90 laps on the 17-turn, 2.3-mile road course. He crossed the finish line 13.2775 seconds ahead of Christian Lundgaard, marking one of the most commanding wins of the season.

“Incredible day,” Palou said. “The car balance was one of the best I’ve ever had. It got even better as the race went on.”

Graham Rahal finished third for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, earning his first podium result since 2023. David Malukas continued his strong run with Team Penske, finishing fourth, while series points leader Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five for Andretti Global.

Despite the large margin of victory, the race had moments of tension. Lundgaard began closing the gap in the middle stages while on the faster alternate tires, cutting Palou’s lead significantly. However, a costly slow pit stop—nearly nine seconds longer than normal—ended any realistic chance of a challenge for the win.

From there, Palou managed the race flawlessly. With a clean, caution-free event, he pulled away following the final round of pit stops and never looked back.

This marked Palou’s third career win at Barber Motorsports Park, further cementing his dominance at the circuit. Notably, in both previous seasons where he won at Barber, he went on to claim the series championship—an ominous sign for the rest of the field.

With the victory, Palou trimmed the points gap to Kirkwood from 26 to just two, intensifying the championship battle as the series heads to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach next.
