The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship returned from its only off weekend with a major statement at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. Hunter Lawrence delivered one of the strongest rides of his career, earning back to back wins and extending his lead in the 450SMX standings during Round 10 of the SMX World Championship.
In the 450SMX main event, Jorge Prado grabbed the holeshot ahead of Lawrence, but the Honda rider quickly took control and never looked back. Once out front, Lawrence built a comfortable lead while battles behind him slowed his closest challengers. Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen fought for position, allowing Lawrence to pull away by several seconds early in the race.
Roczen charged from deep in the field, moving from 16th to second with an impressive ride, but he could not close the gap enough to challenge for the win. Lawrence crossed the finish line 2.3 seconds ahead to secure his third victory in the last four races. Tomac finished third after a difficult night that included a trip to the Last Chance Qualifier following a heat race incident. With the win, Lawrence extended his points lead over Tomac, while Roczen strengthened his hold on third in the standings.
The 250SMX East and West Showdown brought added intensity, featuring top riders from both divisions. Levi Kitchengrabbed the holeshot over Cole Davies, and the two traded the lead multiple times early in the race. As the event progressed, Davies appeared to take control, but pressure quickly built from behind.
Jo Shimoda and Haiden Deegan worked their way into contention, with Deegan charging from 10th place into the lead group. In the closing laps, Deegan made aggressive passes to take over first and pulled away to cross the finish line in front.
However, after the race, officials reviewed an incident where Deegan cut across a split lane section of the track. He was penalized one position, which handed the victory to Davies. Deegan was moved to second, while Seth Hammaker finished third after capitalizing on a late mistake by Shimoda. Kitchen completed the top five.
With the adjusted results, Davies gained the lead in the Eastern Division standings, while Deegan still holds a large advantage in the Western Division. The night in Birmingham delivered both dominance and controversy, setting the stage for an intense push toward the championship.
