Monster Energy Supercross returned to the heart of Indianapolis for its annual visit inside Lucas Oil Stadium, and the second Triple Crown event of the 2026 season did not disappoint. The evening delivered thrilling racing, dramatic moments, and decisive victories for 450SMX points leader Hunter Lawrence and Eastern Divisional 250SMX standout Cole Davies.
In the premier 450SMX class, Hunter Lawrence continued to demonstrate why he is a championship favorite. The Honda HRC Progressive rider secured his second victory of the season and claimed the Triple Crown win through a tiebreaker over title rival Eli Tomac. Lawrence’s consistent performance – finishing 2-4-1 in the three races – edged out Tomac’s 3-2-2, highlighting the importance of performing when it matters most.
The night started with Ken Roczen of Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki taking the win in Race 1, with Lawrence finishing second and Tomac third. Race 2 saw chaos early as Roczen collided with Aaron Plessinger, ending his race and promoting Cooper Webb to the victory. Lawrence suffered from lapped riders, dropping to fourth, while Tomac held on for second.
The final race of the Triple Crown delivered the decisive result. Lawrence grabbed the holeshot and led wire-to-wire, steadily increasing his advantage over Tomac. A margin of 5.5 seconds secured the win, the Triple Crown victory, and an extended championship lead for Lawrence. Cooper Webb rounded out the overall podium in third place.
“This win means a lot,” Lawrence said. “This is a Triple Crown, so it’s a tough one. Riding five days in a row with the team, we all persevered, and this is the ultimate thank you for that effort.”
Tomac, narrowly missing out on the overall win, remained in striking distance in the title race. “I made one mistake in the final race, and Hunter pulled out a second or two,” Tomac explained. “It’s just a tough night of racing, but I’m glad to get a solid finish.”
The Eastern Divisional 250SMX Class also produced compelling drama. Cole Davies of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing delivered a commanding performance, completing a 1-1-1 sweep for his first Triple Crown win of the season. Davies controlled the races from the front, overcoming fierce competition from Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda and Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker.
“It’s a bit of a relief now,” Davies said. “I’ve been frustrated at previous rounds, but tonight I let the race come to me and made it work.”
Shimoda secured second overall with consistent finishes in all three races, while Hammaker overcame early adversity to round out the podium. The results tightened the Eastern Division title fight, with four riders now separated by just two points in the standings.
Lucas Oil Stadium delivered all the excitement fans have come to expect from a Triple Crown event. Lawrence and Davies proved their championship credentials, and the results set the stage for an intense remainder of the 2026 season in both the 450SMX and 250SMX classes.
This was a night where strategy, skill, and perseverance paid off – and for Lawrence and Davies, the victories will be remembered as milestones in their championship campaigns.
