Spire Motorsports heads into the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season with something to prove. While 2025 showed flashes of speed and potential, the year ultimately ended in frustration. All three cars were capable of running up front at times, yet none of them were able to seal the deal with a win or make the playoffs. That disappointment now serves as motivation. Spire knows it belongs in the conversation, and 2026 feels like a season where the team is ready to take a real leap forward.
With continued support from Chevrolet and Hendrick Motorsports engines, Spire has no shortage of equipment or talent. The focus now is execution. Too many strong runs slipped away last season due to late-race issues, mistakes, or bad luck. Cleaning up those details could be the difference between another rebuilding year and a true breakout campaign. The lineup of Daniel Suárez, Michael McDowell, and Carson Hocevar gives Spire a strong mix of experience, racecraft, and raw speed.
Daniel Suárez steps into the No. 7 Chevrolet looking for a fresh start after a tough 2025. His final standings position did not match his ability, and history suggests a bounce-back is likely. Suárez has proven he can win at the Cup level, especially on road courses and intermediate tracks. Paired with McDowell, he gives Spire one of the stronger road course duos in the field. If Suárez can build momentum early, a multi-win season is not out of the question.
Michael McDowell remains one of the most respected veterans in the garage. Despite being in his 40s, his performance last season showed that he still has plenty left to give. Texas and Chicago were prime examples of races where victory slipped through his fingers. Even so, his speed, leadership, and consistency make him a playoff-capable driver. If things break his way, McDowell could surprise a lot of people in 2026.
Carson Hocevar might be the biggest wildcard on the team. The talent is obvious, and the speed of the No. 77 Chevrolet was undeniable in 2025. However, inconsistency and aggressive mistakes held him back. When Hocevar stayed clean, like at Nashville, he showed he could run with the best. If he learns to balance patience with aggression across a full season, his third year in the Cup Series could be a turning point.
For Spire Motorsports, 2026 is about turning potential into results. Wins, playoff spots, and statement performances are all within reach. The ceiling is high, and now it is time for the team to finally shatter it.
