Authorities are investigating a reported burglary at the home of NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, just weeks after Biffle, his wife, and two of his children were killed in a tragic plane crash in North Carolina.

According to a police report obtained by WCNC Charlotte, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to Biffle’s estate on Doolie Road on the evening of Jan. 8. Investigators were told that approximately $30,000 in cash and a backpack were missing from the residence. The report did not specify when the items were last seen or how entry may have been gained.

As of now, no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. Authorities have not confirmed whether any suspects or persons of interest have been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The reported burglary comes amid continued mourning for the victims of a deadly plane crash that occurred on Dec. 18 at Statesville Regional Airport. Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their children Emma and Ryder were among seven people killed in the crash. The other victims were Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton, and his son, Jack Dutton.

A public remembrance event honoring all seven victims is scheduled for Friday at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. Doors will open at 10 a.m., with the service set to begin at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public and does not require tickets. It will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

Meanwhile, the cause of the plane crash remains under investigation. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) board member Michael Graham confirmed that someone aboard the aircraft sent a text message to a family member indicating an emergency landing shortly before the crash. Officials say the plane went down approximately 10 minutes after takeoff.

The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report in the coming weeks, though a final report determining the probable cause of the crash could take between 12 and 18 months.

As investigations continue, both the reported burglary and the crash have added to the sense of shock surrounding the loss of one of NASCAR’s most well-known figures and his family.
