Mooresville Honors Team Penske for Championship Three-Peat

On Monday, NASCAR Cup Series championship-winning organization Team Penske received formal recognition from its hometown as Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney and the Town Board of Commissioners honored the racing powerhouse in a special proclamation ceremony at the Mack Citizen Center.

The ceremony celebrated Team Penske’s unprecedented achievement of securing three consecutive NASCAR Cup Series championships, firmly establishing the organization as one of motorsport’s modern dynasties.

Team Penske executives Travis Geisler and Michael Nelson were present for the honors, alongside NASCAR Cup Series champions Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. The championship-winning crews from the No. 12 and No. 22 teams also attended the prestigious event.

“What a privilege it is for Team Penske to be honored by the Town of Mooresville,” said Michael Nelson, President of NASCAR Operations at Team Penske. “Mooresville is not only home to the organization, but also where so many of our team members and their families live and work. We are certainly proud to represent the town, our partners, and race fans each week we go to the track and compete at the highest level of motorsports.”

Team Penske has maintained strong ties to Iredell County since 1991, when the organization first established operations at 136 Knob Hill Road. In 2005, the team relocated to its current state-of-the-art facility—a sprawling 400,000-square-foot complex situated in the northeast corner of Mooresville.

The move has proven fruitful for both the team and the community. Today, Team Penske employs more than 450 team members and has produced an impressive 24 of its 47 total championships while operating from its Mooresville headquarters.

Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney acknowledged the team’s significance to the community, stating, “Team Penske is truly creating a modern-day dynasty in the racing industry. We are honored to celebrate their achievements and are proud that an organization with such a legacy of excellence calls Mooresville home.”

Team Penske’s remarkable run of NASCAR Cup Series dominance began in 2022 when veteran driver Joey Logano clinched his second championship with a commanding performance in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, leading 187 of 312 laps.

The following year, Ryan Blaney joined the championship ranks after securing a crucial victory at Martinsville Speedway that propelled him into the Championship 4. Blaney went on to finish second in the season finale, earning his first NASCAR Cup Series title.

The team’s dominance reached new heights in 2024 when Logano and Blaney delivered a historic 1-2 finish in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. Logano captured his third Cup Series title while Blaney demonstrated remarkable consistency with a runner-up finish.

While the NASCAR Cup Series championships formed the centerpiece of Monday’s celebration, Team Penske’s excellence extends across multiple racing disciplines. The organization captured the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series title with Josef Newgarden and achieved a remarkable Memorial Day Weekend sweep in 2023, with victories in both the Coca-Cola 600 (Blaney) and the Indianapolis 500 (Newgarden).

The team’s global motorsports program continues to excel as well. Through its partnership with Porsche, Team Penske secured championships in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024.

With its deep community ties and continued racing excellence, Team Penske’s dynasty shows no signs of slowing down as the organization continues to represent Mooresville on racing’s biggest stages around the world.
