In what has become almost a foregone conclusion on superspeedways, Austin Hill claimed yet another drafting track victory Saturday, winning the Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway by the slimmest of margins. The Winston, Georgia native’s triumph marks his third win of the 2025 season and solidifies his status as the all-time leader in drafting track victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with nine.
Unlike many of his previous superspeedway wins, Hill didn’t dominate the event. That role belonged to his Richard Childress Racing teammate Jesse Love, who started from the pole and led a race-high 50 of the 113 laps. Hill did make his presence known throughout the day, pacing the field for 19 laps and capturing the race’s second stage.
The decisive moment came on the final lap when the caution flag flew just as the leaders were racing three-wide. NASCAR officials determined through photo evidence that Hill was ahead at the moment of caution, giving him the victory over Jeb Burton and teammate Jesse Love.
The race-ending caution was triggered when Love made contact with Connor Zilisch, who was leading at the time, on the backstretch of the final lap. The contact sent Zilisch’s No. 88 JR Motorsports entry hard into the inside SAFER Barrier. Fortunately, the rookie driver emerged uninjured from the infield care center after the incident.
Burton, a two-time previous Talladega winner in the Xfinity Series, settled for second place driving for Jordan Anderson Racing. Love, despite initiating the contact that ended the race, completed the podium in third position.
Justin Allgaier brought home a solid fourth-place finish, while Matt DiBenedetto delivered Viking Motorsports its first-ever top-five result in the series, finishing fifth in the No. 99 Chevrolet.
The top ten was completed by Anthony Alfredo in sixth, Blaine Perkins with a career-best seventh for Jordan Anderson Racing, Harrison Burton in eighth, followed by Sheldon Creed and Daniel Dye.
With this result, Allgaier maintains a commanding 79-point lead over race winner Hill in the championship standings. Sam Mayer, Jesse Love, and Carson Kvapil round out the top five in points.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series now moves to Texas Motor Speedway for next weekend’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, scheduled for Saturday, May 3 at 2:00 PM ET. Last year’s event at Texas produced one of the most thrilling finishes in series history between Sam Mayer and Ryan Sieg, setting high expectations for this year’s race.
