Supercross Title Battles Heat Up: Sexton Chases Webb in 450SX, Hammaker Takes 250SX East Lead

Chase Sexton delivered a masterclass performance at Round 14 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, leaving the competition far behind at MetLife Stadium. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star grabbed the holeshot and never looked back, stretching his lead to over 18 seconds during a commanding ride in New Jersey.

The victory significantly tightens the championship battle, bringing Sexton within nine points of current leader Cooper Webb. With three rounds remaining, Sexton has positioned himself for a potential title—winning each remaining event would secure him the championship.

“I felt good all day. The two whoop sections helped me out a lot,” Sexton said after the race. “I really feel like I made a lot of time up there. The KTM group has the bike working great. I had such a good flow that moto, and it really just felt like it was effortless for me.”

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb claimed second place after taking that position immediately following the holeshot. However, Webb gradually lost contact with Sexton on the challenging, rutted New Jersey track.

“It’s tough, he was on it and he was killing me in those two sets of whoops,” Webb admitted. “I’m still pretty mind blown how he was able to do it so good. He rode awesome.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Aaron Plessinger rounded out the podium after a hard-fought battle with Justin Barcia, who crashed in the closing laps. Plessinger acknowledged the difficulty of the track, saying, “I was ready for this track to be over since second practice. It was gnarly.”

In the Eastern Divisional 250SX Class, Seth Hammaker led every lap aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki to become the first repeat winner in the division this season. The victory gave Hammaker sole possession of the points lead. Remarkably, Hammaker overcame illness earlier in the week to secure the win.

“I got sick on Tuesday night into Wednesday,” Hammaker revealed. “It did creep into my mind a little bit but thankfully I was able to put in clean, consistent laps. It feels really good to get another win and have the red plate solo now.”

RJ Hampshire finished second, while defending champion Tom Vialle took third after struggling in previous rounds.

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross season continues with Round 15 at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 26. The series will feature both 450SX Class and Eastern Divisional 250SX Class competition, along with the SMX Next – Supercross AMA National Championship.
