In an electrifying display of skill and determination, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton fought back from a first-turn mishap to claim victory at Round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. The Philadelphia event, held under ideal weather conditions at Lincoln Financial Field, delivered spectacular racing action as the championship battle heats up with just four rounds remaining.
Sexton’s fourth win of the season significantly narrows the points gap to championship leader Cooper Webb, who now holds a mere 12-point advantage. The race showcased Sexton’s dominance throughout the day, as he secured the fastest qualifier position in both sessions, won his heat race, and ultimately claimed the Main Event victory.
“It’s time to make or break,” Sexton declared after his win. “I felt great all day, and that’s how you do it: one, one, one, one. I’m looking forward to the next race, but today was awesome. Good, dry track, not like last weekend, and I’m feeling good on the bike.”
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb matched Sexton’s impressive charge through the field after both riders were caught in the same first-turn incident. Webb ultimately secured second place, maintaining his championship lead while acknowledging Sexton’s performance: “He rode great. We’ll come back next weekend and kick his ass, though… I’m ready for the fight, I’ll be there at the end no matter what.”
Despite nursing significant ankle and shoulder injuries, Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen grabbed the holeshot and led for much of the race before being overtaken by the charging Sexton and Webb. Roczen’s gutsy third-place performance was particularly impressive considering his physical limitations.
“When the race time comes, I always seem to buckle up and do what I do,” Roczen explained. “I haven’t ridden during the week really since after Indy. It’s been really tough; I’m pretty banged up with the shoulder and the ankle.”
In the 250SX Class East/West Showdown, rookie sensation Cole Davies from Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing secured his second career win with a commanding performance against the top racers from both regional divisions. Davies established himself as the premier 250SX Class competitor with a statement ride that left the competition in his wake.
“I literally grew up watching all the guys that I’m racing right now,” Davies said on the podium. “It’s a big stage out here, a lot of people watching, but I just focus on myself. Two in a row, I’m stoked.”
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan, the Western Division points leader, finished second, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s RJ Hampshire rounded out the podium as the top Eastern Division rider. Hampshire’s third-place result moved him into a points tie with Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker in the Eastern Division standings.
The Philadelphia Supercross also drew notable celebrity attendance, including WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker, who was experiencing his first Supercross event. “The amount of physicality that goes into what these guys do on the track is incredible,” Breakker remarked. “My hat’s off to ’em, these incredible athletes.”
As the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heads into its final four rounds, the intensifying title battle between Sexton and Webb promises to deliver even more thrilling action for fans across the country.
