Malcolm Stewart achieved a career milestone at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, securing his first 450SX Class victory in his 109th start. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider, a 32-year-old Florida native, delivered a masterful performance at Round 5 of the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.
Stewart’s victory came after a challenging mid-pack start, showcasing his determination as he worked his way through the field. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb claimed second place, while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson completed the podium in third.
The night saw several dramatic moments, including Chase Sexton’s unfortunate crash while leading. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider held the front position for much of the race until encountering trouble in the whoops section just as Stewart was mounting a challenge for the lead. Though Sexton quickly remounted, he ultimately dropped to fifth place.
“Big bro, you know there’s something about that hometown crowd,” Stewart told his brother and former Supercross champion James Stewart from the broadcast booth. “For a split second, I was like, ‘Alright I need to get this done.’ Stewart is back in the whoops, Y’all!”
The event was marked by several notable absences and incidents. Defending champion Jett Lawrence missed the race due to an injury that may sideline him for the remainder of the season. His brother, Hunter Lawrence, withdrew after a hard crash in his heat race. Eli Tomac, nursing a foot injury from qualifying, finished 17th while focusing on salvaging points.
In the 250SX East Championship opener, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Max Anstie claimed victory after an eventful race that included a red flag following Pierce Brown’s crash while leading. Anstie’s teammate Daxton Bennick secured second place, with Cameron McAdoo finishing third despite competing with a torn ACL.
The series continues next Saturday with Round 6 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, where riders will compete in a daytime event.
