Trump Set to Attend 2025 Daytona 500

For the second time in five years, President Donald Trump is expected to attend the NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500, according to reports from CBS News White House correspondents.

CBS News Senior White House & Political Correspondent Ed O’Keefe shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he and other correspondents were informed of the President’s plans to be in attendance. O’Keefe also noted that “we may see the ‘Beast’ do a few laps on the track,” referring to the Presidential limousine. If true, this would mark Trump’s third time attending a NASCAR event since 2020.

Trump’s reported Daytona 500 visit comes just a week after he is set to attend Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 9, in Las Vegas. His presence at two of America’s biggest sporting events within a week highlights his continued engagement with major cultural and entertainment events.

President Trump’s first Daytona 500 appearance came in 2020, where he not only gave the command to start engines but also took a few laps around Daytona International Speedway in “The Beast” before departing. That race was eventually postponed to the following day due to rain, with Denny Hamlin securing the victory.

During his 2024 re-election campaign, Trump also attended the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Much like his previous Daytona visit, rain impacted the event, causing a delay before the race was eventually called short, declaring Christopher Bell the winner.

Beyond Trump’s appearances, his running mate, Vice President J.D. Vance, attended the Charlotte Roval race during the NASCAR Playoffs in 2024, reinforcing the administration’s ties to the sport.

The 2025 Daytona 500 is set for Sunday, February 16, at 2:30 p.m. ET, airing on FOX with additional coverage on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
