Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has announced an exciting comeback for veteran driver Kasey Kahne, who will pilot the No. 33 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet in the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday, April 19.
The race marks a significant moment for both Kahne and the historic “The Rock” speedway, as it represents the track’s return to NASCAR competition after more than a decade. For Kahne, it’s a chance to revisit a venue that holds special memories from his illustrious racing career.
Kahne, a celebrated NASCAR driver with 18 career Cup Series victories and named one of the 75 Greatest Drivers in NASCAR history in 2023, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of a stock car, especially at a place like Rockingham Speedway,” he said. The Washington native fondly recalled winning a Truck Series race at the track in 2012, the last time NASCAR competed there.
Richard Childress, chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing, praised Kahne’s driving abilities and competitive spirit. “Kasey is a great driver and a fierce competitor,” Childress stated. He highlighted the strength of RCR’s Xfinity Series program and expressed confidence that Kahne could potentially secure a victory alongside team drivers Austin Hill and Jesse Love.
Rick Hendrick, chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, also voiced support for the endeavor, emphasizing the collaborative spirit between RCR and Hendrick. “We’re proud to have HendrickCars.com on board with Kasey at Rockingham,” Hendrick said.
In preparation for the race, Kahne will participate in a NASCAR test at Rockingham Speedway on Tuesday, January 28. Fans can watch the race live on The CW at 4:00 p.m. ET, with radio coverage available on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
The event promises to be a nostalgic and thrilling return to one of NASCAR’s most beloved historic tracks, with Kahne bringing his championship-caliber skills to the Xfinity Series race.
