2025 Monster Energy Supercross Preview

The 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season begins in spectacular fashion this Saturday, January 11, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. With a stacked lineup of fit and determined contenders, this season opener is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events in the history of the sport. The forecast promises clear skies and a daytime temperature of 69°F ensuring ideal track conditions for Saturday night’s racing action.

The Battle for the 450SX Title

All eyes will be on reigning 450SX champion Jett Lawrence as he seeks to defend his title for HRC Honda. Lawrence, who burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2024, has a chance to cement his place in the record books alongside the legendary Jeremy McGrath as the only riders to win back-to-back premier class championships in their first two seasons. Adding to the excitement, Lawrence will line up alongside his brother, Hunter, who also rides for HRC Honda.

Challenging Lawrence is a formidable field of former champions and elite competitors. Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb are both proven winners capable of stealing the show. Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton, another top contender, is hungry for his first Supercross crown after coming close in previous seasons.

Monster Energy Kawasaki brings double the intrigue with former champion Jason Anderson and reigning MXGP world champion Jorge Prado. Prado, embarking on his first full AMA Supercross season, is recovering from a thumb injury sustained during training but remains a rider to watch. Rounding out the list of major threats is Ken Roczen, the two-time FIM World Supercross Champion who continues his quest for his first AMA Supercross title.

250SX West: Deegan’s Shot at Glory

In the 250SX West series, the spotlight falls on Star Racing Yamaha’s Haiden “Danger Boy” Deegan. The reigning SMX and outdoor champion is looking to add an indoor title to his résumé after coming agonizingly close on two occasions on the East Coast. Deegan’s decision to focus on the West Coast championship in 2025 has elevated expectations for his performance.

Deegan faces stiff competition from HRC’s Jo Shimoda and defending West Coast champion Levi Kitchen, who rides for Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Other names expected to make waves include Jordon Smith (Triumph Factory Racing), Julien Beaumer (Red Bull KTM), Garrett Marchbanks (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), and Ryder DiFrancesco (Rockstar Energy GASGAS).

Privateers and up-and-comers also bring added depth to the field. Coty Schock, the 2024 WSX SX2 runner-up, and Jett Reynolds will represent Muc-Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha, while former British MX2 champion Dylan Walsh aims to make his mark on a privateer Kawasaki.

An Unmissable Event

The opening round at Angel Stadium promises drama, excitement, and a potential glimpse at future champions in both the 450SX and 250SX classes. With perfect weather, a star-studded lineup, and an electric atmosphere, fans are in for an unforgettable night of racing.

The gate drops this Saturday night—don’t miss the start of what promises to be an incredible 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.
