In a commanding performance at Phoenix Raceway, Ty Majeski secured his first NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series championship with a dominant victory in Friday night’s season finale. The ThorSport Racing driver led an impressive 132 of 150 laps en route to his third win of the season.
Majeski pulled away during the final 27-lap green-flag run to finish nearly four seconds ahead of championship contender Corey Heim. The victory marked Majeski’s sixth career win and his first at the one-mile Arizona track.
“I can’t believe it,” an elated Majeski said after the race. He credited his success to ThorSport Racing team owners Duke and Rhonda Thorson, who gave him another chance after two previous unsuccessful opportunities in his career. The driver also praised crew chief Joe Shear Jr., calling him “one bad dude.”
The championship represents a significant milestone for ThorSport Racing, marking their record-setting sixth title in the series. The organization has now claimed three of the last four Truck Series championships, adding to their previous successes with Matt Crafton and Ben Rhodes.
Fellow Championship 4 contender Corey Heim finished second despite facing adversity during the race. A restart violation forced him to restart from 19th position, but he managed to work his way through the field. However, he ultimately didn’t have enough speed to challenge Majeski’s dominant Ford F-150.
The other championship contenders, Christian Eckes and Grant Enfinger, finished third and fifth respectively. Both drivers made late-race pit stops for fresh tires but couldn’t mount a serious challenge to Majeski’s leading pace.
The race featured six cautions for 43 laps, including a red flag period lasting over six minutes for a nine-truck accident on the backstretch. However, once Majeski got clean air on the final restart with 27 laps to go, the outcome was never in doubt as he drove away to claim both the race victory and the championship.
