NASCAR Cup Series Makes Historic Debut in Mexico City

In a groundbreaking move for American motorsports, NASCAR has announced that the NASCAR Cup Series will hold its first-ever points race in Mexico on Sunday, June 15, 2025. The event will take place at the renowned Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez road course in Mexico City, marking a significant milestone in NASCAR’s 75-year history.

A Weekend of International Racing

The historic weekend will feature not only the NASCAR Cup Series but also include races from the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Mexico Series. This multi-series event underscores NASCAR’s commitment to expanding its global footprint and fostering international motorsports connections.

Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Executive Vice President & Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer, emphasized the significance of this move: “This is a historic moment for our sport, and specifically for the NASCAR Cup Series, in being able to expand our footprint to Mexico. We’ve been bold about our intentions to grow on a global scale, and there isn’t a better place to take the next step in that journey than at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez road course in Mexico City.”

The Venue: Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

The chosen venue for this landmark event is no stranger to high-profile racing. Built in 1959 and named after Mexican racing brothers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a 2.674-mile road course featuring 17 challenging turns. Situated at an elevation of 7,342 feet, the track promises to test drivers’ skills and provide an exciting spectacle for fans.

Remodeled in 2015, the circuit has since hosted eight Formula 1 Grand Prix events, cementing its status as a world-class racing facility. Its selection for NASCAR’s international debut speaks volumes about the track’s quality and appeal.

NASCAR’s Rich History with Mexico

While this will be the Cup Series’ first points race in Mexico, NASCAR’s relationship with the country dates back to 1950 when NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and Curtis Turner participated in the La Carrera Panamericana road race. More recently, from 2005 to 2008, the Xfinity Series competed at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, with current Cup Series stars Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr. all claiming victories during that period.

The NASCAR Mexico Series, now in its 17th season under the NASCAR banner, has been instrumental in developing talent, including Cup Series winner Daniel Suárez and rising stars like Eloy López, Andres Pérez de Lara, and Regina Sirvent.

The NASCAR Cup Series race will air live on Prime Video on Sunday, June 15, 2025, while Saturday’s Xfinity Series race will be broadcast live on The CW. The NASCAR Mexico Series will also compete as part of the action-packed weekend.
