Busch, who will start 12th on the grid for Sunday’s race, revealed during his post-qualifying media session that he sustained a sprained left wrist in a crash at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The injury occurred on Lap 158 when his car hit the wall, demonstrating the physical toll that the NextGen cars can take on drivers.
“These great NextGen race cars, snap your wheel, and you snap your wrist,” Busch commented, hinting at the increased force feedback in the new vehicle design.
The severity of the injury was significant enough that Busch admitted he would have missed at least one race if not for the fortuitous two-week Olympic break in the NASCAR schedule.
