Corey Heim used a strategic pit call to take the lead and then held off Christian Eckes over the final laps to win the Toyota 200 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway on Saturday.

Heim brought his No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota Tundra to pit road earlier than the leaders for his final green-flag pit stop. That move cycled him into the lead when the rest of the front-runners pitted under the next caution on lap 129.

From there, the 21-year-old driver from Georgia had to fend off stiff challenges from pole sitter Ty Majeski on a restart with 22 laps remaining. Heim cleared Majeski after a heated side-by-side battle and then drove away over the final laps.

Eckes finished second, 1.854 seconds behind Heim, with Nick Sanchez taking third place. Majeski faded to fourth in the closing laps.

“Total team effort today,” said Heim after scoring his fourth win of the season. “The pit crew redeemed themselves from some mistakes last week.”

Heim also collected a $50,000 bonus as the winner of the second leg of the Triple Truck Challenge. He and Charlotte winner Sanchez can earn an additional $100,000 if one of them wins the third Challenge race at Nashville.

Majeski started on the pole and swept both of the race’s stages, but admitted he just didn’t have enough to run down Heim at the end.

It was a breakthrough race for Mexican driver Andrés Pérez de Lara and Luke Fenhaus, who both earned top-10 finishes in their NASCAR Truck Series debuts by finishing 9th and 10th respectively.

The race was delayed over two hours by rain showers before getting underway under sunny skies in the afternoon.
