With Christian Eckes, Corey Heim, Rajah Caruth and Nick Sanchez already locking themselves into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series playoffs by winning races, the competition is intensifying to secure one of the remaining six postseason berths.
Through the first 7 of 16 regular season races, Ty Majeski, Taylor Gray, Tyler Ankrum, Matt Crafton, Tanner Gray and Grant Enfinger currently occupy the final six transfer spots into the 10-truck playoff field based on points. However, their grips on those positions are increasingly tenuous.
Just on the outside looking in, drivers like Daniel Dye (-5 points behind the cut), Ben Rhodes (-6), Stewart Friesen (-17), Bayley Currey (-24) and Jake Garcia (-24) are all within striking distance of racing their way into the playoff bracket.
While Majeski, the Grays, Ankrum, Crafton and Enfinger have been consistent so far, their winless efforts leave them vulnerable to being leapfrogged in the standings by a driver who finds Victory Lane over the next couple months.
Of course, there’s still over half the regular season remaining for a new contender to emerge with a hot streak and race into the playoff picture. But for now, the window is closing for drivers to make that move.
As the Truck Series heads to Kansas, every single point will be precious for drivers trying to secure their playoff bid or make a late charge into the field of title contenders. The real jockeying is just getting underway.
