Denny Hamlin secured his third NASCAR Cup Series victory of the 2024 season on Sunday, holding off a late charge from Kyle Larson to win the Würth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. Hamlin’s No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota led a race-high 136 laps around the 1-mile Delaware oval.
The win was the 54th of Hamlin’s Cup career, tying him with NASCAR Hall of Famer Lee Petty for 12th on the all-time wins list. Hamlin crossed the finish line just 0.256 seconds ahead of Larson, with Martin Truex Jr. placing third, Kyle Busch fourth, and Chase Elliott rounding out the top five.
Truex and Larson split the stage victories during the 400-lap event. A multi-car crash on a restart with 72 laps remaining collected Christopher Bell, William Byron, and Bubba Wallace, ending their days prematurely. It was Byron’s first DNF of 2024 but consecutive early exits for Bell and Wallace.
Craftsman Truck Series regular Corey Heim made his Cup Series debut, finishing 25th while substituting for the injured Erik Jones in the No. 43 Legacy Motor Club entry.
The NASCAR Cup Series now heads to Kansas Speedway for next Sunday’s AdventHealth 400, which will be broadcast live at 3 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
