Chaos Reigns as Tyler Reddick Steals Talladega Victory

Tyler Reddick pulled off a stunning last-second victory at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday after leaders Michael McDowell and Brad Keselowski wrecked while battling for the win on the final lap.

McDowell seemed poised to give Ford its first victory of the season, leading as they came to the white flag. But his aggressive blocks on Keselowski upset the aerodynamics, causing McDowell to spin and Keselowski to check up. That opened the door for Reddick to blast past for an improbable triumph.

The typical Talladega chaos resulted in a massive multi-car pileup behind the leaders as the field wrecked while jockeying for position. Corey LaJoie’s car slid across the finish line on its roof amid the wreckage.

Reddick celebrated wildly, climbing the catch fence in front of the grandstands like a victorious rock star. His team co-owner, basketball legend Michael Jordan, was elated in Victory Lane, comparing it to an NBA playoff game.

Keselowski took second, painfully close to his first win since 2021 at the 2.66-mile Alabama trioval. He said McDowell’s blocks cut off his running room as he tried to make a pass for the lead.

The Toyota teams had a strategy backfire that knocked most of them out of contention. Trying to work together to slingshot to the front, they pitted as a group but wrecked shortly after making their banzai run, with Bubba Wallace triggering a multi-car incident.

When the smoke cleared, it was Reddick taking an improbable win in the typically crazy Talladega draft. The series heads to Dover next Sunday for the Würth 400 on FS1.
