Bristol Motor Speedway is gearing up for an exciting weekend of NASCAR action, with the Craftsman Truck Series and the Cup Series races taking center stage.
Craftsman Truck Series
The Craftsman Truck Series kicks off the action on Saturday, March 16, with the Weather Guard Truck Race. This marks the first time since 1999 that the Truck Series will compete on the concrete surface at Bristol in the spring, as they had been racing on the dirt track from 2021 onwards. The 250-lap race, will have the first two stage at 65 laps, while Stage three will be 120 laps.
NASCAR Cup Series regular Kyle Busch and Rookie Zane Smith are among the entries for the Truck race. Busch, the winningest driver in the Truck Series with five victories at Bristol, will pilot the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Previous Bristol concrete winners Ty Majeski and Corey Heim are also hungry for another trip to Victory Lane.
Additionally, Rajah Caruth has the potential to continue his historic run. After becoming the third African American to win a NASCAR national series race at Las Vegas, Caruth could make history again by becoming only the sixth driver to win his first two Truck Series races back-to-back.
In the points standings, Tyler Ankrum holds a slim five-point lead over Ty Majeski after five races. Ankrum will be aiming for a strong run at Bristol, a track where he has a best finish of seventh in 2020.
The action kicks off with Truck Series practice on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on FS1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, followed by qualifying at 3:40 p.m. ET. The race itself will be televised live on FS1 at 8 p.m. ET, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Cup Series
Fans are revving up for the return of the Cup Series Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 17. After a hiatus from its traditional spring race format, the 500-lap event promises a thrilling spectacle on the iconic half-mile concrete oval.
Highlighted in this year’s lineup is Josh Berry of Stewart-Haas Racing, aiming to become only the third Tennessee-born driver to clinch a Cup Series win in the state. With a field of 12 drivers vying for their inaugural Cup Series victory, including Berry and other rising stars like Carson Hocevar and Ty Gibbs, the potential for a new winner adds an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Recent milestones, such as Toyota’s historic feat at Phoenix Raceway and the consistent performances of drivers like Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr., underscore the anticipation surrounding the race. Additionally, Bristol’s reputation for producing surprise performances sets the stage for another chapter of thrilling moments on the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile.”
With anticipation reaching a fever pitch, Bristol Motor Speedway is poised to deliver a spectacle that will captivate fans and drivers alike, reaffirming its status as one of NASCAR’s most iconic venues.
The action kicks off with practice on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET on FS1, followed by qualifying at 5:50 p.m. ET. The race itself will be televised live Sunday on FS1 at 3:30 p.m. ET, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
