Reigning Lucas Oil Champion Splits from MRRI and Rocket Chassis

Reigning Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Hudson O’Neal has shockingly announced he is parting ways with Mike Reece Racing & Innovations (MRRI) and Rocket Chassis after just one season.
In a message to fans, the rising star stated “Without divulging any details, I have decided to part ways with MRRI. As this was a hard decision for me, I believe this was the best decision for myself.”
O’Neal’s departure from the powerhouse MRRI/Rocket team comes just months after he captured the 2023 Lucas Oil championship on the national tour. He expressed gratitude towards the team, specifically owners Steve Reece, Mark Richards, Danny White and the entire crew.
“There is no way possible for me to not be thankful for Steve, Sherre, Mark, Danny, Austin, Joel, and everyone back at Rocket Chassis for all they have done,” O’Neal said. “Thank you guys for your dedication.”
While light on details about his decision to leave, the rising star assured fans “I am certain I will be back on the track again soon, but no concrete plans are in place moving forward.” He teased an announcement about something “huge” planned for the upcoming Brownstown event.
O’Neal ended his statement philosophically: “As One Book Closes. Another Storybook Will Open.”
The Georgia native’s split from one of the elite teams in dirt late model racing is a major shakeup just weeks into the 2024 Lucas Oil season. O’Neal did not provide any reasoning for his abrupt departure after a wildly successful 2023 championship campaign alongside MRRI and Rocket.
