World of Outlaws, DIRTCar Issue Suspensions, Fines To High Profile Drivers

The World of Outlaws and DIRTCar Racing have cracked down on multiple drivers after post-race tire inspections at Volusia Speedway Park, issuing suspensions and significant fines.

World of Outlaws officials handed down a 30-day suspension and $8,400 fine to Bobby Pierce after his tires failed a post-race inspection at the February 16 Late Model event at Volusia. An independent lab test revealed Pierce’s tires did not conform to the benchmarks provided by Hoosier Tire, the series’ exclusive tire supplier.

Pierce, the two-time defending World of Outlaws Late Model champion, has been disqualified from the Volusia race, docked 294 driver and owner points, and fined $1,000 plus $400 for the tire analysis costs. He also forfeits the $7,000 prize money from the event.

The 26-year-old Illinois star’s suspension will cover at minimum the next four completed World of Outlaws Late Model events.

DIRTCar Racing also issued 30-day suspensions to drivers Devin Moran and Kyle Bronson for similar violations after races at Volusia. Moran, the 2022 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion, and rising talent Bronson failed DIRTCar tire inspections.

Tire testing has been an increased focus area in recent years as officials aim to rein in costs and maintain a level playing field across dirt late model racing’s top tours.

While specific details were not released, failing an inspection can include improper measuring, chemical alterations, or the use of non-approved tire compounds or types.

The simultaneous suspensions of Pierce, Moran and Bronson represent some of the harshest penalties handed out in years related to tire infractions in dirt late model racing.

Their absences will significantly impact the upcoming schedules of the World of Outlaws, Lucas Oil, and other regional tours over the next 30 days.

Pierce, Moran and Bronson will be eligible to return to competition in mid-April once their 30-day suspensions are complete. How the three respond on the race track after their unprecedented punishments remains to be seen.
