
Phoenix Raceway was the site of an epic NASCAR Cup Series battle this weekend as Christopher Bell dominated the field to win the Shriner’s Children’s 500 after leading the final 41 laps and 50 in total. Chris Buscher finished with a second place finish 5.46 seconds behind Bell, Ty Gibbs had a n impressive run bringing home a third place finish.
The race was a caution-filled affair with 6 yellow flag periods for various incidents, including a multi-car crash on lap 204 that collected several drivers including Joey Logano, Corey LaJoie, John Hunter Nemechek and more. Ty Gibbs, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, and Chase Elliott ran up front for long stretches, but it was Bell who emerged victorious after passing Martin Truex Jr. for the lead on lap 272.
The event saw 6 different leaders swapping the top spot 11 times in total. Ty Gibbs led 57 laps early before being passed by Tyler Reddick, who went on to win Stage One. Christopher Bell was able to win Stage Two over Reddick. Stage Three cautions allowed drivers like Chris Buescher and Brad Keselowski to cycle into the front as strategies played out over the final stage.
When the checkered flag flew, Bell celebrated his 1st win of the 2024 season, and fourth season in a row, while drivers like Gibbs, Buescher, Blaney and others left Phoenix feeling good about their runs. But it was Bell’s day to shine after holding off the field in a dominate fashion.
